Socket set
Drain plug, splash shield, battery terminals, air box: one set covers nearly every fastener on the car.

Where to buy
02
Why you need it
- Drain plugs run 13 to 19 mm on most cars (your vehicle page lists the exact size). Splash-shield bolts and clips are usually 10 mm.
- A ratchet with a decent set of metric sockets replaces a drawer of mismatched wrenches.
- Extensions and a universal joint get you to the plug when the shield is in the way.
03
What to look for
- Metric first. Nearly every modern car, including domestic brands, is metric. SAE is a bonus.
- 3/8-inch drive is the sweet spot; add 1/4 for interior and 1/2 for suspension later.
- 6-point sockets grip rounded plugs better than 12-point.
- Fine-tooth ratchets (72 or more teeth) need less swing in tight spots.
