Torque your drain plug to 34 Nm (25 ft-lbs) to avoid leaks or stripped threads. Using the OEM filter (Mazda 1WPE-14-302) is recommended for warranty compliance. Always use 0W-20 Full Synthetic as specified by Mazda — using the wrong viscosity can void your powertrain warranty. Check the maintenance schedule below for your next service interval. Some customers may experience a check engine light ON with DTC P0126:00 (Thermostat stuck open) and one or more of the following symptoms: Engine takes longer to warm up. Engine temperature gauge fluctuates. Low coolant temperature indicator (blue) light stays on longer or turns on while driving. Poor heater performance, especially at idle. This concern may be caused if the coolant control valve fail-safe thermostat opens at a temperature lower than the normal temperature due to a deformation of the thermostat diaphragm. To eliminate the concern, the water flow control valve specification has been modified.

A musty/mildew type odor may come from the vents when the air conditioning (A/C) system is operating. It is most noticeable when the A/C is first turned ON. This odor is the result of mold growth in the A/C evaporator/cooling unit which is caused by condensation, dust, and pollen within the cooling unit. This condition is usually worse during high humidity conditions. “Mazda Air Cooling Coil Coating” is available to encapsulate the mold to reduce odors. If the product is properly applied, it can effectively reduce the musty/mildew odor for up to three years. NOTE: See parts information for Mazda Air Cooling Coil Coating and Kit part numbers.
